HISTORY OF ASDC NETWORK

Sport Canada supports a network of national sport centres in order to strengthen Canada’s sport development system and enhance training environments for high performance athletes and coaches.

The Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation (ASRPWF) endorses Sport Canada’s mandate, and is forming a provincial network that will provide support for inter-provincial emerging athletes. These regional centres, called Alberta Sport Development Centres (ASDC), are being designed as stepping-stones for athletes to excel to national ranks and train at national sport centres.

Currently, the ASRPWF is supporting regional sport centres in Calgary, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Edmonton and Lethbridge

The centres share the vision of a collective approach to providing sport science support in an athlete-centred structure. Their focus is on developing sport science application initiatives with support from experts in nutrition, mental skills and injury prevention, and providing high performance training programs for emerging athletes and coaches.
