Athlete Development for Disability Sport
Our Program
Athlete Development for Disability Sport (ADDS) is program unique to the ASDC-Capital Region. This exciting initiative is the result of a partnership between the ASDC-Capital Region and The Steadward Centre for Personal & Physical Achievement at the University of Alberta.
The area of disability sport is rapidly developing. Many opportunities are available to both emerging and established athletes and their coaches through the programs offered at the ASDC-Capital Region. Emphasis is placed on programs that will develop both knowledge and skills related to new training techniques and methods in three areas: strength and conditioning, sport nutrition, and mental skills.
ASDC-Capital Region coaches specializing in strength and conditioning, sport nutrition, and mental skills are on site to answer questions and provide practical knowledge relevant to disability sport. Athletes who participate in the Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP) will work with coaches in these three areas in individual and group settings over the course of a season.
The AEP program strives to develop the fundamental skills necessary to provide a strong foundation as athletes begin to further develop their skills and increase their level of competition.
The education and development of coaches is also an integral part of the ADDS program and it focuses on educating coaches from an applied sport science perspective. With a strong knowledge of the science behind strength and conditioning, nutrition, and mental skills, coaches will have the capacity to help athletes with disabilities reach their potential.
