STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING FOR PARENTS
At ASDC – Capital Region, we believe the probability of transfer to athletic performance is highly dependent on the degree to which training replicates athletic performance. The first step in deriving benefits of training specificity is, therefore, a comprehensive needs analysis (Gamble, P., 2006). As a strength and Conditioning (S&C) Staff at ASDC (Capitol Region), we feel that the athlete is a complex psychosociophysiological entity, and S & C is simply a small part of the total stress placed on an athlete. For that reason, ASDC further believes the athletes parent/s must also play a major roll in the multidisciplinary lifestyle management of their child’s Long Term Athletic Development.
As a S & C Staff at ASDC we will spend hours calculating loads, volume, providing variety and introducing your son or daughter to individualized training methods utilized from numerous disciplines (e.g, Exercise Physiology, Pedagogy, Motor Learning, Etc.). Unfortunately, if an athlete’s lifestyle is not conducive to high performance, his or her athletic performance will be severely compromised (Jeffreys, I., & Powys, C., 2006). As a parent of a high performance athlete, it is your responsibility to educate yourself on how lifestyle stress, effects performance and how you can help your son or daughter cope with all of these stressors.
